Project Overview
The Biosolids Pump Station is a key component of the Stowe Regional Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) program, the largest capital effort in Charlotte Water’s history and the utility’s first new wastewater treatment facility construction in nearly four decades.
The Biosolids Pump Station project provides the infrastructure needed to receive, store, and move solids generated during treatment. The project includes a new solids transfer pump station with pressurized solids screens, solids grinders, and three 150-horsepower inline solids transfer pumps, as well as a bridge crane, monorail, and hoist for long-term operations and maintenance. Work also includes construction of a primary sludge storage tank and a waste activated sludge storage tank, each designed with provisions for a future companion tank as flows increase, along with a new bioscrubber odor control facility. Yard piping, valves, and odor control ductwork connect the new facilities and prepare the site for future phases.
Built on an active site shared with several other construction teams delivering the broader Stowe program, the work requires close coordination to keep activities sequenced safely around ongoing construction.
The is project and the overall Stowe program will serve northwestern Mecklenburg County and eastern Gaston County, providing 15 mgd of treatment capacity and the technology needed to process and treat increasing wastewater generated by the region.
In coordination with the Biosolids Pump Station project, PC Construction also completed a separate contract to decommission, demolish, and restore the Mount Holly Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is now served by the Stowe Regional WRRF.
