Project Overview
This $62.8 million expansion of the existing facility doubled the water treatment plant’s capacity to 20 mgd. The project included a new 20-mgd treatment process with conventional treatment as the primary clarification process, a 10-mgd filter building, upgrades and expansions to the chemical systems, a 2.5-million-gallon clearwell, packaged inclined plate settlers, an equalization basin, emergency waste lagoons and stormwater management ponds.
Work included a new 115-inch diameter tunnel underneath I-95 to allow the transfer of raw and finished water to and from the facility. Over 20,000 cubic yards of concrete were placed throughout the duration of construction.
