CVPH Medical Center Adult Mental Health Unit

The new adult mental health unit required the demolition and renovation of nearly 18,000 square feet of the existing core hospital tower to house 18 new private patient rooms and seven provider offices. Additional support spaces included consultation and group therapy rooms, a nurses’ station, family/visitor spaces, a check-in/reception area, a cafeteria and dining room, a workout room and staff lounge space.

The renovation of the nearly 100-year-old space also required infrastructure upgrades ranging from two new 5,700-pound air handlers set seven stories above ground to highly specialized technology supporting the rollout of the EPIC medical records system.

Construction of this unit required extensive coordination with the hospital’s skilled nursing facility, which was located directly below, to accommodate the sensitive nature of the residents’ needs.
