Project Overview
This comprehensive renovation and expansion of Kennebunk’s high school addressed significant structural and program deficiencies, life-safety code issues, building envelope requirements and ADA accessibility issues.
The existing space received a 100,000-square-foot renovation within the historic 1939 school building and the 1980 building addition. Associated work included upgraded restrooms, conversion of the existing auditorium to a lecture hall, and construction of a library, 15 classrooms, 8 science and technology labs and a kitchen.
The 103,000-square-foot addition is home to 28 new classrooms, an auditorium, office and administration spaces, a cafeteria, a practice gymnasium with group bathroom/locker rooms, and specialty spaces for band, chorus, STEM and woodworking programs.
Many sustainable features were incorporated into the space, such as radiant slabs, daylight harvesting, solar thermal and vertical displacement diffusers.
Substantial site work rounded out the project, adding a new access road, surface-level parking, tennis courts, a concessions building and storm drainage.
