Project Overview
This new field house and lobby addition links all of Middlebury College’s athletic facilities into one state-of-the-art complex. Construction included a new 110,000-square-foot multi-use athletic facility and a formal entryway and lobby that connects the campus’ various athletic facilities.
The new facility features a NCAA-standard 200-meter track with six competition lanes and nine straightaway sprinting lanes; a 180-foot by 130-foot artificial turf infield area for field sports; Beynon BSS full-depth, poured-in-place urethane athletic flooring system for the track and infield area; and an eight-level tiered precast concrete seating area that can accommodate 5,000 seats.
Site work included removal of 80,000 cubic yards of material and installation of a versatile wellpoint system for dewatering and the installation of a deep foundation system in close proximity to occupied campus areas. PC also disassembled and removed the previous air-supported structure.
