Project Overview
The rehabilitation and expansion of the Mildred L. Day School addressed significant structural deficiencies, life-safety code issues and building envelope requirements while providing new core educational and support spaces. Work included demolition of the school’s C and D wings, nearly 26,000 square feet of new construction and over 15,000 square feet of selective renovations to existing space.
The new space houses six classrooms, a library, offices, a gymnasium with group bathrooms, a serving kitchen and a mechanical mezzanine. Renovations included building-wide envelope rehabilitation, technology infrastructure and alarm system upgrades, and security and fire-suppression sprinkler systems.
The project increased the size of the former 40,500-square-foot school by about 1,000 square feet while replacing deteriorating space with a new, unified footprint that more efficiently meets their program needs.
