PC’s Leadership Development Program (LDP) has been an overarching foundation for the development of future PC leaders for decades. In fact, our current president and CEO, Matt Cooke, is a graduate of this very program, along with several members of PC’s executive leadership team. We currently have 15 enthusiastic participants in the LDP, ranging from recently accepted to nearing graduation. It has been exciting watching their growth during their time in the program, which has expanded and evolved over the past year.
One of the highlights of the program is the annual LDP Academy. This event provides an opportunity for members of the program to get together in person, network and build relationships, learn from fellow employee owners about how PC operates, build their leadership skills and tour project sites. This year’s academy took place at PC’s Vermont office.
Over the course of the three days, the group participated in panel discussions on leadership skills, self-perform work, Lean, ownership culture and how the business development and estimating teams work together to win new projects. Former LDP participants and executives also spoke to the group and, in turn, the LDP participants gave company improvement presentations to spark growth and change from within. The Academy was wrapped up with a site visit to the BETA Technologies S40 Aircraft Assembly Facility project where two current LDPs gave a tour and shared their contributions to the project over the past year.
This was the first LDP Academy since 2019 due to the COVID pandemic and it was great to be together again. These two days of in-person sessions really strengthened relationships within the LDP group and beyond while providing an environment for learning.
This program has been incredibly powerful at PC, giving voice and opportunity to our up-and-coming leaders and preparing them to succeed in all facets of a construction business. We look forward to supporting them along their learning path and celebrating their accomplishments along whichever path they take.
