PC Women Participate in Women Build Week

| By

A team of 10 PC women from the Vermont region recently participated in Habitat for Humanity’s annual Women Build Week. This annual campaign focuses on bringing women together to build stronger communities. Women and children are the most likely to be affected by poor living conditions, and events like Women Build provide the opportunity for women to serve their communities while expanding their construction skills.

PC women from both operations and office roles spent the day working on a duplex build site in Burlington, Vermont. Women make up about 10% of the construction industry nationally, and at PC we are just above this average. It is not uncommon to be the only woman on a team or jobsite, so having a crew comprised completely of women was really exiting.

We worked with the affectionally self-named “Geezer Crew” on this build. It was inspiring to work with a group of retirees who have become long-time volunteers for Habitat. Their passion for building and giving back was evident as they led our crew through several projects, including setting up scaffolding for a scheduled roofing crew, framing and roofing front porches, installing ZIP sheathing and various other tasks to progress the build. It was really exciting to see the progress that we made at the end of the day, and we look forward to participating in this event again next year!
