Last night PC Construction was honored to accept a Build Maine Award from the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Maine for the major renovation and expansion project at three school buildings within Regional School Unit 21.
The $47.2 million project included the rehabilitation and expansion of two elementary schools and the area’s high school. In total, over 147,000 square feet of renovations and nearly 135,000 square feet of additions were completed at the Mildred L. Day School, Kennebunkport Consolidated School, and Kennebunk High School. A defining attribute of this project was the owner’s decision to utilize a construction management model, rather than the typical design-bid-build structure utilized by the majority of Maine school-specific projects. This allowed for unique subcontractor and vendor procurement strategies that provided best cost and value for RSU 21 while creating a collaborative approach to completing this complex project.
By December 2018, all efforts prevailed. The project was completed on time and budget, and nearly 500,000 work hours were expended with zero lost-time injuries. Most importantly, the students, teachers and administration were immersed in modern, durable and energy efficient spaces to match the caliber of their educational initiatives.
