Project Overview

This expansion of Weidmann Electrical Technology’s manufacturing campus increases production capacity for one of the world’s largest producers of high-grade insulation materials used in electrical transformers. The project marks PC Construction’s second contract with Weidmann, building on the successful completion of the facility’s first addition in 2012.

The expansion included three major components: a new 10,000-square-foot freestanding, pre-engineered warehouse building; upgrades to Weidmann’s board-making machine, including a new Kraft chest, cleaner system, and 400-horsepower electric motor; and a 25,000-square-foot addition to the existing Fabrication North building. The addition was designed with an expansive free span to accommodate approximately 125 fabrication tools.

PC’s Special Projects Group self-performed the warehouse’s structural steel, siding, and roofing, completing the foundation in just one month despite harsh winter conditions in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. The board machine upgrade required rigging a 1,000-horsepower, 70,000-pound boiler onto the second story of the building using two cranes, with only inches of clearance. Tying the Fabrication North addition into the existing structure required raising the roof more than 10 feet, along with column and footing upgrades and shoring of the existing structure, all while Weidmann relocated its entire shipping operation and continued running a live, 24-hour manufacturing facility.

The Warehouse and the Fabrication North addition completed in late 2025, carrying the project from a shovel in the ground to the owner making product in under a year. The final phase, which relocated more than 100 pieces of manufacturing equipment, including four walk-in ovens, a 30,000-pound CNC machine, and seven bridge cranes, wrapped up in the spring of 2026, marking the project’s final completion after just 17 months of construction.

Our Clients

This milestone could not have happened without all the hard work and dedication everyone placed on this portion of the project. We capitalized on every opportunity to beat the schedule, and it made a significant impact. The collaboration we all shared is by far some of the best I have seen in the many years of working on projects.
